The Mumbai University (MU) is now accepting applications for undergraduate programs at the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE). Students who meet the eligibility criteria can apply online via the official website. The deadline for submitting applications is August 30.

The CDOE at Mumbai University offers a total of 29 courses at both the undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) levels. Courses are listed on the CDOE website with their details. It should be noted that there is a separate website for CDOE from the main Mumbai University website. Admissions for UG programs opened shortly after the Maharashtra State Board released the Class 12 results on May 21 and the PG admissions began last week. UG and PG course admissions have separate portals.

UG students are required to create an Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) ID at the time of admission to be eligible for credit transfers, in line with University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines. PG students, in addition to creating an ABC ID, must also create an ID for the Distance Education Bureau (DEB).

These courses are available to anyone interested and are each worth two credits under the credit-based system recommended by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Students can pursue a few credits online by choosing courses from a variety of valid options. As per reports, CDOE plans to offer more online courses soon.

CDOE provides study materials, counselling, and guidance at its regional centres from 10:20 am to 6:00 pm on weekdays. Mumbai University’s distance education started in 1971–1972, with the creation of the Directorate of Correspondence Courses. It became the Institute of Distance Education in 1993 and has now been rebranded as the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE).

The change in the name to CDOE comes as a result of UGC directives to all universities offering distance learning. This rebranding has brought national attention to CDOE at Mumbai University. With the introduction of fully online courses, CDOE is now accepting enrolment from students across India.
