The Aqua Line project got a green signal in June 2013 with an initial budget of Rs 23,136 crore. However, with 98% of the work completed now, the total cost of the project went up to Rs 37,276 crore. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) funded the project. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will operate and maintain the Aqua Line of Mumbai Metro for the next ten years.

Mumbai: Aqua Line of the Mumbai Metro, which runs underground, is set to start commercial operations soon. This new line is expected to significantly improve the city’s transportation system, making travel easier, reducing traffic jams, and enhancing the overall commuting experience. The Aqua Line is part of Mumbai’s larger metro expansion plan. Once operational, this metro corridor will offer fast and efficient train services that link the major areas of the city and cut down the travel time.

The new metro line will also offer the city a cleaner and more reliable travel option compared to the traditional road transport. The first phase of the Mumbai Metro 3 line will soon open. It will connect SEEPZ (Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone) with BKC (Bandra Kurla Complex). The Aqua Line metro corridor will span 33.5 kilometers from Aarey Colony to Cuffe Parade. It will have 27 stations, with 26 underground and one above ground.

As per sources, the Aqua Line metro will operate from 6:30 am to 11 pm. The maximum speed of the train will be 90 km/h, and the journey will cover 35 kilometers in about 50 minutes, compared to over two hours by road.
