Mumbai local update: Several local trains witnessed nearly 15-minute delays in Mumbai on Wednesday after a bamboo structure fell on an overhead wire on the route between Matunga and Sion stations, reported PTI. A local train operating on the route was delayed by fifteen minutes due to technical snags, reported ANI, referring to Central Railway’s statement.

Due to the overhead wire issue, a few other local trains were delayed by nearly 35 minutes, which led to trains being diverted on other routes.

“Central Railway locals are delayed by 15 minutes due to a technical issue between Matunga and Sion stations. A local train in the Up direction was stranded for nearly 35 minutes (7.45 am to 8.20 am) on the Up fast line due to an overhead wire issue. Few trains were diverted on slow line after this which resulted in nearly 15 minutes delay of all local trains,” said Central Railway in a statement.

The delay in train fast local train services between Sion and Matunga stations for almost an hour caused inconvenience for the office-goers and others. Due to the delay, many officegoers were spotted getting off the train and walk along the tracks, risking their lives.

“A bamboo structure erected around a building adjacent to the railway line fell down on the UP fast (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-bound) line between Sion and Matunga stations at around 7.25 am,” Central Railway’s chief public relations officer Swapnil Nila told PTI.

“Due to the incident, the fast local train services on the Mainline were held up as they had to switch off the power supply to the overhead wire to remove the bamboo fallen on it. Services on this line were restored at 8.20 am,” he added.

With more than 70 lakh commuters using the the mode of transportation, Mumbai local trains are considered lifelines of Mumbai. The commuter service is provided by the Central Railway and the Western Railway.
