A resident of Dombivli, K Shriniwas, was allegedly under stress due to financial worries
A 38-year-old engineer allegedly jumped off the Atal Setu trans-harbour bridge in Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon, police said. A search was underway for him, an official said late in the evening. A resident of Dombivli, K Shriniwas, was allegedly under stress due to financial worries.
He jumped into the sea after parking his car on the Nhava Sheva end of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (also known as Atal Setu) around 12.30 pm, the official added. Shriniwas had left his residence around 11.30 pm on Tuesday night, had spoken to his wife and four-year-old daughter over phone hours before taking the drastic step, the official further noted.
According to his family, he was facing a serious financial problem. In 2023, he had attempted to take his life by drinking a floor cleaner liquid while working in Kuwait, the official said.
On March 20, a female doctor from Thane had also committed suicide by jumping from Atal Setu.
