Former India captain MS Dhoni spoke about his bond with former teammate Virat Kohli in a video which went viral on social media.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli are two of the most successful captains and cricketers that India and for that matter the world has ever seen. The duo formed an incredible bond when Dhoni was the skipper of the team with Kohli making his international debut under him and the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain supported Virat during his stint as leader of Team India.

At an event recently, former India skipper Dhoni opened up on his bond with Kohli. The duo were last seen facing off against each other when CSK took on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season earlier this year.

“We have been colleagues who played for India for a very long time. He (Kohli) has been amongst the best when it comes to world cricket. And the fact that I could bat a lot with him during the middle overs was a lot of fun because we used to take a lot of twos and threes in the game, so it has always been fun,” Dhoni said at an event in Hyderabad this week.

“It’s not like we meet very often, but whenever we get a chance, we make sure that we go on the side and chat for sometime, we’ll talk about what is going on, so that is our relationship,” the former CSK skipper added.

MS Dhoni and Kohli were last seen in international cricket together in the heartbreaking loss to New Zealand in the 2019 ODI World Cup semifinal. It was incidentally Dhoni’s final international match.

Kohli and Dhoni are the two cricketers who have the credit of being part of winning teams in World Cup in both the T20 and ODI format. Dhoni, in fact, was the captain of the side which won the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup.

Meanwhile, an IPL franchise head said that capped Indians who had not played internationals for several years were being forced to enter the auction at higher base prices and were therefore often going unsold despite going under the hammer more than once.

On Thursday, ESPNCricinfo website had reported erroneously that suggestion to use this uncapped player rule had come from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in order to retain MS Dhoni, who retired from international cricket in August 2020 and played his last international match for India in 2019. Ahead of the mega auction, Dhoni was retained by CSK for Rs 12 crores.
