More heavy rain in the offing over Nagaland, forecasts IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted increased rainfall activity in Nagaland from August 5-10. In its evening update on August 4, the national weather agency predicted a high likelihood of “heavy to very heavy rainfall (≥ 12 cm)” at isolated places over Nagaland on August 5, issuing an “Orange” alert, or ‘be prepared to take action,’ for Monday.

For the period from August 7-10, the IMD forecasted “Heavy rainfall (≥ 7 cm) at isolated places” and issued a Yellow alert, or ‘Watch or Be Updated,’ for this timeframe.

The IMD Meteorological Centre in Kohima also issued an Orange alert for heavy rainfall with thunderstorms on August 6 for six districts: Phek, Mon, Kohima, Kiphire, Tuensang, and Zunheboto. The rest of the districts will be under a Yellow alert.

Additionally, the Centre forecasted ‘Widespread to fairly widespread’ rainfall for most districts in Nagaland until August 8.
