Monsoon alert: IMD sounds alarm in Odisha, Maharashtra; Heavy rainfall expected in THESE states – Check full forecast – India News
Several regions in the country have been facing heavy rainfall in the last few days. With this, while some regions witnessed waterlogging, others were hit by landslides. Amid this, the India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in many regions in the coming days.
As per its latest update, very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected over Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh in the coming days till August 26. Meanwhile, East-central India and Gangetic West Bengal could face similar weather conditions on August 24 and 25. Tripura, Mizoram, Assam, and Meghalaya can expect heavy rainfall from August 24 to 26, IMD said.
Alerts issued in Odisha, Maharashtra
As per the IMD’s forecast on August 23, several districts in Odisha can witness heavy to very heavy rainfall in the following four days post the formation of a low-pressure area and a cyclonic circulation. Manorama Mohanty, the director of the IMD Bhubaneswar center, stated that a low-pressure area currently situated over northern parts of West Bengal and its surrounding regions is expected to move towards Jharkhand. A cyclonic circulation has also formed over the Bay of Bengal.
An orange alert for today has been sounded by the local weather office for several areas including Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sundargarh and Keonjhar districts. Meanwhile, a yellow warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Nuapada, Bargarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Nabarangpur districts for Saturday.
The IMD also issued heavy rainfall alerts for Mumbai and other regions in Maharashtra for the upcoming days. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in the districts of Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, and Ratnagiri in the Konkan region starting from August 24. An orange alert has also been issued for Pune and Satara districts in western Maharashtra, as well as Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, and Gondia districts in Vidarbha, for Saturday.
Heavy rainfall in Southern India
The IMD has predicted that isolated heavy rainfall is very likely in Telangana on August 24. Coastal Karnataka is expected to experience heavy rainfall from August 24 to 26, while Kerala and Mahe are likely to see similar conditions from August 24 to 29. North Interior Karnataka can also expect heavy rainfall today.
Besides this, in Northwest India, Uttarakhand is expected to see isolated heavy rainfall in the upcoming seven days. Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan could see the same from August 24-26. Himachal Pradesh is also expected to experience isolated heavy rainfall on August 27 and 28.
The national capital was lashed with heavy rainfall on Friday, August 23, which caused severe waterlogging in many areas. A 15-year-old boy drowned in the Chanakyapuri area.
