The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) recently hosted a Media Press Conference at its headquarters on August 8, 2024, to share the latest updates in the tourism industry and the highlights from the successful “Welcome India” Roadshow series. The event was attended by prominent figures such as the Minister of Tourism, Ibrahim Faisal; Advisor to the President on Tourism Development, Mohamed Khaleel; Chairperson of MMPRC and President of the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO); and the Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director of MMPRC, Ibrahim Shiuree.

The conference aimed to strengthen the tourism industry through open, transparent communication and cooperation. MMPRC outlined its strategies and initiatives designed to showcase the Maldives’ unique experiences and drive growth in Indian and global travel trade.

The media event also highlighted the “Welcome India” Roadshow, a collaborative effort between MMPRC, MATATO, and NHGAM, conducted from July 30 to August 3, 2024. The three-city roadshow series covered New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. It aimed to maintain the Maldives’ destination presence, connect with B2B travel trade partners, and reinforce the Maldives as the premier holiday destination for Indian travelers. The Maldives delegation at the event included Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal and Advisor to the President Mohamed Khaleel, along with 23 industry partners from the Maldives.

Key highlights of the roadshow included a comprehensive destination showcase, providing an overview of the Maldives’ diverse tourism products and experiences. Attendees had the opportunity to engage in one-on-one meetings with Maldivian tourism representatives, explore business opportunities, and build lasting partnerships. Additionally, presentations from Island Aviation and Sri Lankan Airlines highlighted enhanced connectivity options to the Maldives. The event also featured raffle draws and engaging presentations, creating a vibrant atmosphere and generating excitement among attendees.

India remains a crucial market for the Maldives, and the “Welcome India” Roadshow was a strategic step to further solidify the Maldives’ appeal in this market. MMPRC plans to continue promoting the Maldives in India through upcoming initiatives, including PR activities, participation in trade shows, media familiarisation trips, joint marketing programmes with airlines and online travel agents, and digital marketing campaigns.
