Mizoram And Manipur Hotel Staff Allege Illegal Confinement And Beating In Chennai
Three employees from Manipur and Mizoram, working at the Chennai Gateway Hotel, have accused the management of illegally confining and physically abusing them over allegations of theft.
The staff members, waiters at the Ignite Bar, claim they were detained and beaten on Saturday evening, accused of stealing Rs 1.5 lakh. However, they allege that the management was aware of their practice of accepting cash into their personal Google Pay accounts and transferring it to the hotel’s account, keeping a 10% tip for themselves.
The hotel management has denied the allegations, stating that the waiters were involved in financial misappropriation. The matter came to light after a social worker, Dr. Aiswarya Rao, brought it to attention on social media platform X.
Chennai Police have launched an investigation, awaiting bank statements to verify the allegations. No arrests have been made yet. The police are probing the case from all angles, and necessary action will be taken after the investigation is complete.
One of the waiters has been associated with the hotel for four years, another for one year, and the third for four months, according to a police officer.
