Recalling her last meeting with her father, Neha said that it was during a summer vacation trip in Srinagar when the family received word that Major Dwivedi had to move to the war front. They had to return home. “We went to the army unit, and both I and my sister went to sleep. The next morning at 4, when he was leaving, we never knew this was our last meeting. We met him half asleep and touched his feet.”

Neha’s memories of her father remain vivid. “Two days before he was martyred, we talked to him. Now, we remember him, his sense of humor, and his letters. We hope he is proud of us.”
