Meow Saves The Day: Pet Cat Gets Thief Caught At Mumbai Filmmaker’s Home

17

Cat saves the day. A shocking theft attempt at Marathi filmmaker Swapne Waghmare Joshi’s house in Andheri took place on midnight of August 28. The burglar was caught and also been arrested due to his connections with both crime and drugs. But did we mention how this not-so-gentleman was caught at Joshi’s house? We have only one word, Meow!

What did the CCTV video reveal?

A CCTV camera was planted at the filmmaker’s flat on the sixth floor to prevent incidents like this one from happening. It shows how the burglar entered the house using a pipe and scaled up to the window in Joshi’s apartment.

He wandered around the house for quite some time mentally calculating the price of various items at her house. So as to carefully consider what to take and what to leave. It was 3:30 AM in the morning and Joshi was in her room sleeping peacefully unaware of the havoc that found its way in her lobby

He finally began to enter a room, hoping to find some more goodies there. But immediately shut the door when he encountered the person sleeping on the floor turning and twisting in their bed, impending proof of them waking up. His prompt move prevented him from getting caught, but just once.

‘Meows’ save the day

After waiting for a few seconds, he opened the door once again. Reacting to this commotion and the presence of a stranger in his master’s apartment, the pet cat began meowing at the top of his voice.

The loud ‘meow, meow’  woke Joshi’s daughter and son-in-law who were asleep in the next room. They started screaming “Thief, Thief.” But before they could catch him, he had escaped the scene.

Joshi’s friend reacts and posts video

Joshi’s friend and fellow filmmaker Ashok Pandit shared a video of CCTV footage on Instagram. He does so as an attempt to make senior citizens and other people who reside alone aware and more careful of their belongings. He calls the unfortunate incident a “real crime patrol.”

“Presenting the real crime patrol. This video is for all of us, especially senior citizens who live alone. You will be shocked to see how a thief climbs the sixth floor of the residence of noted filmmaker Swapna Waghmare Joshi situated at Lokhandwala Complex Andheri West Mumbai with the help of the pipes and jumps out the same way when he is noticed by a member of the house. These days the security guards are busy sleeping or watching mobiles. Share this video as much as you can,” his caption reads.

Was the thief arrested?

The thief managed to take Rs. 6000 with him before he was caught. But the list of his mischiefs is much longer than that. With the help of CCTV footage, the police immediately recognised him. He is Aniket Gounder, a 22-year-old man with a criminal record that extends beyond his young age.

“When we brought him in and interrogated him, he revealed that he used the stolen money to buy drugs. He is a drug addict,” The police revealed in a conversation with ANI.
