Aside from your location and classmates, what was the key part of Washington Foster’s MBA programming that led you to choose this business school and why was it so important to you? Foster’s MBA program stood out to me for its emphasis on experiential learning through applied strategy projects and case competitions, fostering critical skills like collaboration, empathy, and persuasion. Our small class size facilitates deeper learning, faculty access, and meaningful connections within the truly collaborative, student-driven community. This nurturing “We>Me” culture, ingrained across coursework and activities, resonated deeply, allowing my growth through engaging team environments. Moreover, the program’s focus on constant improvement, with faculty, alumni, and students collectively striving to enhance experiences, aligned perfectly with my growth mindset. Foster promised an enriching journey where I could expand leadership capabilities while uplifting peers, making it the ideal platform to harmonize personal and professional development.
What course, club or activity have you enjoyed the most so far at Washington Foster? Among the many enriching aspects of the Foster MBA, Professor Jennifer Graves’ Statistics course stands out to me as one that I enjoyed the most. Professor Graves’ captivating teaching style breathes life into even the driest of topics through engaging storytelling and relatable anecdotes. Her approachable demeanor and student-centric mindset created a supportive learning environment that alleviated the rigor of quantitative coursework.
On the other hand, complementing this academic excellence is the Global Business Association Club that provides a vibrant platform for celebrating cultural diversity. Witnessing different traditions converge through cuisine, events, and camaraderie has been an eye-opening experience. It has deepened my appreciation for the multitude of cultures represented on campus and expanded my global mindset. The association’s activities foster an inclusive space for cultural exchange and personal growth.
Washington Foster operates off a philosophy of We>Me. Give us an example of how you’ve seen that among your classmates so far. As an international student in a shaky job market, facing rejections while juggling academics was tough. But my classmates were amazing – despite their own workloads, they understood the extra hurdles for international students. They prioritized teamwork, celebrated each other’s wins, and made sure no one got left behind. Foster has built a supportive community where we’re not competitors, but collaborators on a shared journey. There’s a drive to uplift one another and overcome challenges together. Foster has cultivated an inclusive community where everyone feels backed to succeed.
Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: My biggest professional accomplishment was leading an end-to-end project to enhance Shell’s internal compliance process efficiency. This process involved securely testing protocols for over 100 high-risk applications holding sensitive data, with just 7 resources across 6 global teams in 45 days. My structured, data-driven phased approach, ambitious goal-setting, and effective collaboration across global teams enabled this project to be a success. The management received strong positive feedback, attributing the streamlined program’s success to my leadership. Apart from receiving recognition for my work from my team and senior management, accomplishing such a challenging feat so early on in my career was a proud moment for me.
Describe your biggest achievement in the MBA program so far: My biggest achievement so far has been striking a balance between academics, extracurricular club activities, career choices, and internship recruitment – all while adapting to a new life in a new country, while staying grounded in my roots. Amidst the whirlwind of activities, being selected as a first-year representative for the Tech Club stands out as a proud moment in my MBA journey so far. This role allows me to manage operations for the club’s events and support peers transitioning into the tech industry, drawing on my own experiences and insights.
What has been your best memory as an MBA so far? Thus far, the most memorable experience has been the First-Year Case Competition. It was remarkable to witness 20 teams present their unique approaches to a single case study. Within just three months, we had acquired the ability to apply learnings from finance, accounting, corporate strategy, and marketing to address a real-world business challenge. Our team crushed it, leveraging our synergies to overcome hurdles and bring our A-game. While we did not win, being part of such an innovative and talented cohort instilled a great sense of pride. Having our diligent efforts validated by faculty and peers was the cherry on top, as we witnessed 20 wildly different ways that successfully conveyed a compelling narrative around the acquisition of a geospatial imaging company.
