Savitri Jindal is known for her simplicity and is a mother of nine children. She never took part in the business affairs of her husband as she always dedicated her time to the family. But in 2005 everything changed after her husband’s death in the chopper crash. She took charge of the businesses in 2005 and divided the group’s companies among her four sons, who now operate them independently.

Sajjan Jindal operates the group’s largest assets including JSW Steel and is based in Mumbai. Meanwhile, Jindal’s younger son Naveen, who is located in Delhi, is responsible for managing Jindal Steel & Power.

Apart from being an accomplished businessperson, Jindal is also a successful politician. She is a member of the Congress Party and has served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Hisar constituency in Haryana when she got elected in 2005. She was also the Minister of State for Revenue and Disaster Management in the Haryana government from 2005 to 2009. From 2013 to 2015, she also held the position of minister in the Haryana government. Savitri Jindal’s husband Om Prakash Jindal was also a minister in the Haryana government and a member of the Haryana Legislative Assembly from the Hisar constituency.

Savitri Jindal was born on 20 March 1950. His childhood was spent in Tinsukia city of Assam. She was married to Omprakash Jindal, the founder of the Jindal Group, in the year 1970. According to some reports, Savitri Jindal never went to college. Ms Jindal believed that the women in their family primarily manage the household and do not participate in the business aspect. In an interview with Forbes India, she once said, “In our family, women do not venture out. We remain in charge of the house while the men take care of everything outside.”

However, when the family needed her to step up and take charge of the Jindal Group she did not hesitate at all.
