Manipur Zeliangrong students endorse ATSUM’s 12-hr bandh

Zeliangrong Students’ Union (ZSUM) on Saturday endorsed the proposed 12-hour bandh call given by All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) in all the hill districts of Manipur.
The ATSUM, on April 18, announced imposition of the 12-hour bandh (to be commenced from 6am) on April 24 while alleging that authority of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal failed to implement its earlier assurance to ‘correct’ the reservation norms for recruitment of LDCs (Lower Division Clerks) in the Centre-run institute.
The ATSUM had signed a tripartite agreement with RIMS authority and the state government on April 3 in this regard which led to the suspension of all forms of agitations earlier announced by the apex body of tribal student bodies in the state.
While endorsing the proposed bandh, ZSUM, in a press release on Saturday, appealed to all the Zeliangrong people living across the state of Manipur especially, Tamenglong and Noney districts to comply with the bandh called by the ATSUM on April 24.
The release alleged that RIMS authority has failed to materialize the agreed terms of the tripartite agreement.
As per the agreement, it said, fresh declaration of LDC appointment results should be done with reservation as SC (3%), ST(34%) and OBC (13%) within one week time.
Cancellation of the RIMS notice dated 03-03-2023 for declaration of result for appointment to the post of LDC and to follow the existing rule and DoPT guidelines in matters of all recruitment to Group C and D posts etc. were the other points agreed upon.
The unconstitutional backdoor appointment of 15 posts of LDC in the RIMS without proper reservation norms was also strongly condemned, the ZSUM alleged.
The alarming situation has developed for the existence of the tribal people in Manipur, the ZSUM asserted.
“Our Forest Rights are threatened, ADC election is not held, DoPT norms of Reservation for government jobs are denied. All the demands made by the tribal people are not successful,” ZSUM alleged.
The whelm of the governance was not favoring the marginal population of the state, the release alleged.
The ZSUM then urged the Zeliangrong people, churches, well-wishers, village chiefs and village authorities various organizations functioning etc. within the jurisdiction of Zeliangrong to cooperate and take part in the stringent agitation.
All the emergency services shall be exempted from the preview of the bandh, the student body added.
