Manipur: Massive ops launched in valley areas; 2 KYKL militants nabbed, huge cache of arms & ammunition found
Imphal, Aug 6: Security forces apprehended two militants of the banned outfit Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) and found a huge cache of arms and ammunitions during search operations on Monday.
In the first operation, two active members of the banned outfit KYKL were arrested from Keirak Khongnang Makhong in Manipur’s Kakching district on Monday. They have been identified as Elangbam Rajen Singh (47) and Ningthoujam Ibomcha Singh (53).
According to police, they were involved in extorting money from the public and government employees across Kakching, Hiyanglam and Sekmaijan areas.
A car and a mobile phone were also recovered from their possession.
In another search operation and area domination conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts, they recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunitions.

Two 9mm SMGs with magazines, two 9mm pistols, one .32 pistol, two .303 rifles (country-made), one 12-bore single-barrel gun, six HE-36 hand grenades, three MK-III A2 grenades, six tear smoke shells, 123 live ammunition rounds, one tube launcher, two HE-36 hand grenade detonators, two MK-III A2 grenade detonators, one handset marked as ‘Baofen’ were recovered from the foot hill of Leirongthel Pitra Lok Macha, Thoubal District.
Security forces have launched a massive operation against the insurgents in Manipur and so far many cadres of various groups have been arrested.
Further, security forces have enforced naka checking to allow for movement of vehicles with essential items along NH-2. They ensured safe movement of 220 vehicles with essential items on Monday.
“Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles. A total of 102 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 44 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State,” Manipur Police said on its handle on X (formerly Twitter).
