Imphal, Aug 30: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has categorically rejected the demand by Kuki groups for a separate administration, emphasizing his commitment to preserving the state’s unity and identity.

In a recent interview, Singh stressed Manipur’s historical significance and vowed not to allow any compromise on the state’s integrity. This marks the first direct rejection of the Kuki demand.

The Kuki groups had earlier pressed for a union territory status, citing ongoing strife as justification. However, Singh highlighted his support for a development package for Kuki-inhabited hilly regions, signaling a willingness to address their concerns within the existing state framework.

Singh’s stance comes amid accusations of ethnic bias, but he remains firm in his commitment to maintaining Manipur’s unity and identity. The development has significant implications for the state’s political landscape and the ongoing dialogue between the government and Kuki groups.
