Imphal, July 29: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Wahengbam Shaya for being honored with the prestigious Sant Kabir Handloom Award (Kamala Devi Chattopadhyay Award) 2023. The award, conferred by the Indian Government, recognizes outstanding weavers who significantly contribute to preserving and promoting the handloom heritage.

In his congratulatory message, CM Biren praised Shaya’s exceptional craftsmanship and dedication to the traditional art of handloom weaving, particularly highlighting her expertise in Ngathokpa Phee, Sarong Phee, and Khoi Charong Inaphee. He expressed immense pride in her achievements, noting, “Her exceptional craftsmanship and dedication to the traditional art of handloom weaving have brought immense pride for Manipur. I wish her continued success in all her future endeavors.”

Wahengbam Shaya, hailing from Wangkhei Lourembam Leikai, Imphal East, has garnered recognition for her skilled work in maintaining the rich tradition of Manipuri handloom weaving. The Sant Kabir Award, a significant accolade in the Indian handloom sector, underscores her vital role in sustaining and evolving the region’s handloom heritage.
