Manipur: 43rd Hawkers’ Day Observed: Rajya Sabha MP Sanajaoba Highlights Importance Of Print Media
Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba highlighted the irreplaceable role of newspapers, despite the rapid advancement of Information Technology , during the 43rd Hawkers’ Day celebration. The event was organised by the Manipur Hawkers’ Association (MHA) at Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board complex, Imphal on Sunday.
Speaking at the observance, MP Sanajaoba noted that while modern gadgets like smartphones and tablets allow people to stay informed about global events, they cannot replace newspapers. He emphasised the significant role newspapers play in society and praised the hawkers for delivering news to people’s doorsteps.
MP Sanajaoba expressed a desire for newspaper hawkers to have a uniform for easy identification and assured his support in introducing a pension scheme for them. Additionally, he proposed building a hall to provide shelter for hawkers during adverse weather conditions.
During the event, the association presented pensions to two elders who had worked as hawkers, and floral tributes were paid to the photographs of retired members of the Manipur Hawkers’ Association.
