Bhubaneswar: A court in Bhubaneswar awarded the death penalty to a man who killed his wife by stabbing her with a knife 33 times.

The man has been identified as Sanjit Das.

The murder occurred on June 9, 2022. Sanjit allegedly murdered his wife, Saraswati Das, after she refused his demands for money to purchase liquor. Her refusal led to him fatally stabbing her.

The murder was particularly brutal, with the man reportedly stabbing her 33 times, causing her death. He also attempted to murder his daughter, Shree Das, by cutting her throat. The incident took place in the Ghatikia area within the jurisdiction of the Khandagiri police station.

A scientific team and forensic experts investigated the scene, uncovering various incriminating pieces of evidence against Sanjit Das. Fifteen individuals provided testimony against him, leading to his death sentence by the Sessions Court in Bhubaneswar.
