Mamata Banerjee warns PM Modi: ‘If Bengal burns, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand… even Delhi will burn’
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday that she will pass a bill in ten days in the West Bengal assembly to ensure capital punishment for rapists. Banerjee also blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for using his party to create trouble in Bengal. “Next week, we will call an assembly session and pass a Bill within 10 days to ensure capital punishment for rapists. We will send this Bill to the Governor. If he doesn’t pass, we will sit outside Raj Bhavan. This Bill must be passed and the Governor cannot evade accountability this time and send it to the President,” Banerjee said speaking at the Trinamool Youth’s Foundation Day. Mamata Banerjee blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for using his party to create trouble in Bengal. “If you set ablaze Bengal, remember the fire will spread to Assam, North East, Jharkhand, Odisha and all the states of eastern region will be affected and they will burn. Your (PM’s) chair will be shaken and your chair will be in trouble. Your chair will be shaken,” Mamata Banerjee said. “Your law is weak. Your law is not strong for women’s security. We want capital punishment for rapists.”
