Lucknow floods: CM Yogi escorted out of UP assembly as complex gets flooded
After two days of incessant rains, Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh got flooded with water. The water also entered the Legislative Assembly complex of Lucknow, from where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had to be escorted through a different route.
A viral video on social media shows the flooded UP assembly complex on Wednesday from where CM Yogi was evacuated from an alternative gate. In the video, workers can also be seen collecting the water from inside the building and throwing outside using buckets.
Heavy rains have also led to flooding of other areas in the city, causing inconvenience for the residents. The flooding has raised serious questions about the infrastructure in the capital city of UP.
Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav has called for more budget allocation for the UP Assembly, emphasising that if such heavy rains can affect the government buildings this much, then other areas in the state might also be vulnerable to similar incidents.
“The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly needs the budget the most. If this is the condition after a torrential rain, then the rest of the state is at the mercy of God,” Yadav wrote in a post on X, along with the video.

The incident calls for an urgent review of infrastructure management and flood control strategies in the city. Various prominent areas in Lucknow like Hazratganj and Gomti Nagar witnessed flooding after heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Other regions in UP have also experienced the fate of Lucknow. Last week, at least 11 districts in UP were affected by floods including Ayodhya, Lakhimpur, Kushinagar, Barabanki, Farukkhabad, Kheri, Siddharthnagar, Badayun, Deoria, Sitapur, Ballia, and Hardoi.
In response to the flooding situation last week, the state established several flood relief shelters along with food and medical provisions.
