LLB student, daughter of IPS officer, found dead in hostel room in Lucknow, probe underway

According to the police, around 8 pm, Anika returned to her room after dinner. When friends checked on her 30 minutes later, she didn’t answer. They entered the room to find her unconscious and immediately took her to Apollo Medics Hospital, where she was declared dead.

The police were informed about the incident, after which they arrived at the scene and notified Anika’s family.

Lucknow: A third-year LLB student at Lohia Law University in Lucknow died under mysterious circumstances on Saturday. Anika Rastogi, 20, was found unconscious in her hostel room and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention, where she succumbed to unknown causes.

The police said that Anika had dinner and returned to her room around 8 pm. When her friends knocked on her door 30 minutes later, she didn’t respond. They forcibly entered the room and found her unconscious. Rushed to Apollo Medics Hospital, Anika was pronounced dead. Her father, an IPS officer currently serving as IG in the National Investigation Agency (NIA), resides in Noida. The incident occurred in the Ashiana police station area, prompting an investigation. Authorities are yet to determine the cause of death.

Police investigates mysterious death

The police were informed about the incident, after which they arrived at the scene and notified Anika’s family. The family traveled from Noida to Lucknow the same night. After completing the legal formalities, the student’s body was sent for a post-mortem. However, the police did not disclose the matter during the night; the information was made public the following morning.

Student Anika Rastogi’s father, Santosh Rastogi, is an IPS officer currently serving as IG in the NIA. It is reported that Santosh Rastogi is posted as IG in the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The cause of the student’s death has not been revealed yet.

Heart condition possible cause: Police

DCP East of Lucknow Commissionerate, Shashank Singh, issued a statement on the case. He said that the student’s death is considered to be 99 per cent natural. A post-mortem has been conducted and further clarity is expected once the results are available. The family has not filed any complaint with the police. They told the authorities that Anika was a heart patient since childhood and had her first heart operation at the age of 8. Since then, she has undergone three heart surgeries.
