    Bibhav Kumar’s arrest necessary, as per law in Swati Maliwal case: Delhi HC

    The arrest of Arvind Kejriwal’s close aide Bibhav Kumar in a case concerning alleged assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal was “necessary” and police strictly followed the law while doing so, the Delhi High Court has said.

    The court, which on Friday dismissed Kumar’s petition that claimed his arrest was illegal, said in its written judgment that there was no merit in his plea.

    Kumar, currently in judicial custody, allegedly assaulted Maliwal at Kejriwal’s official residence on May 13. He was arrested by the Delhi Police on May 18.

    Chhattisgarh: Man mauled to death by wild sloth bear, two seriously injured

    A 28-year-old man was killed and two others were seriously injured after they were attacked by a wild sloth bear in Chhattisgarh’s Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district on Sunday, police said.

    The incident took place this morning near Badraudi village when deceased Chhablal along with Ghasiram (45) and Santlal (42) went to collect wood to celebrate a local festival, said Marwahi division forest officer (DFO) Raunak Goyal.

    “After coming face to face with the bear, the three tried to confront it. Chhablal was mauled to death, while Ghasiram and Santlal sustained critical injuries. The injured persons were shifted to the community health centre in Marwahi and then to Bilaspur for advanced treatment,” Goyal said.

    The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday pleas filed by AAP leader Manish Sisodia, seeking bail in corruption and money-laundering cases linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam.

    A bench of Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan will take up for hearing both the pleas.

    IRS officer wounded in knife attack in south Delhi home by burglar

    A 61-year-old retired IRS officer was injured in a knife attack by an alleged burglar at his Vasant Kunj house in south Delhi early Sunday, police said.

    Abhay Kumar Singh and his wife Anupama, who also suffered minor wounds, were rushed to the AIIMS where they took treatment and were discharged.

    Police have arrested Jitender, 38, a desperate burglar, in connection with the incident, an officer said.

    FIR registered for bomb threat to CM’s office in Bihar

    Bihar Police have registered a case in connection with an email threatening to blow up the chief minister’s office here, a senior officer said.

    According to an FIR registered on the basis of the statement of Sachivalaya Police Station SHO Sanjeev Kumar, the email was sent to the CMO on July 16.

    The sender of the email had claimed that he was associated with Al-Qaeda and threatened to “bomb the premises” of the CMO.

    A key aide of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar slammed Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, who has decided to embark on a state-wide tour to highlight alleged failures of the NDA government.

    Iran says short-range projectile killed Hamas’ Haniyeh, reiterates vows of retaliation

    Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said a short-range projectile was behind the killing of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh and accused the United States of supporting the attack which it blamed on Israel, state TV reported.

    The televised statement, which reiterated a call for retaliation, said a rocket with a seven-kg warhead was used to target the residence of Hamas’ political leader in the capital Tehran on Wednesday, adding it caused heavy devastation. It didn’t share details of the residence’s location.
