Gangtok: A landslide took place at Munsithang en route to Lachen in North Sikkim on Sunday. Fortunately, there have been no reports of human casualties.

It is noteworthy that North Sikkim has been cut off since a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) occurred last year, and the ongoing heavy rainfall is impeding the road restoration efforts.

The District Magistrate of Kalimpong recently updated on the progress of restoring connectivity along National Highway 10 (NH 10), where the Public Works Department (PWD) has made significant strides and expects to complete the work within a week.

The district administration has emphasized the project’s urgency, although the specifics of the work are not yet public. The authorities have promised to provide an official update once the restoration is complete. Meanwhile, residents and travellers are advised to look out for the official announcement, expected within the coming week.
