- KL Rahul To Quit LSG Captaincy Before IPL 2025? What Did Star Batter Talk With Sanjiv Goenka In 4-Hour Meeting
Before starting his training for Duleep Trophy in Bengaluru, KL Rahul dropped in Kolkata to meet Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka in a long four-hour meeting.
KL Rahul served as Lucknow Super Giants captain in all three IPL seasons so far.
New Delhi: KL Rahul has expressed his desire to be retained by the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the IPL 2025 auction but not as a captain, according to IANS. Rahul himself travelled to Kolkata to meet LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka at his office in Alipore on Monday and is believed to have spoken about stepping down from captaincy and wanted to contribute more with the bat.
According to sources close to LSG, Rahul is likely to be retained but the captaincy role remains uncertain as the franchise have a couple of options with Krunal Pandya and Nicholas Pooran being the two big names to fill in Rahul’s shoes. “The meeting was official with the CEO Sanjiv Goenka on Monday, the captaincy and retention topics were discussed.
“However, Rahul is unlikely to captain the side in the upcoming edition as he wants to explore himself more as a batter. Goenka has full confidence in Rahul and he will be retained as a player, but will not be seen captaining the side,” sources close to the LSG told IANS.
“We are still exploring the captaincy option but with BCCI agreeing on player retention conditions we have two players (Krunal Pandya and Nicholas Pooran) in race,” he added. Following a long chat with Goenka for about four hours, Rahul left for Bengaluru where he will start his Duleep Trophy training at the National Cricket Academy.
Rahul will be playing under Shubman Gill in Team A.
