Mumbai: Cases of people smoking on flights and inside the Mumbai airport have witnessed a rise this year with 8 such incidents reported till now. On Monday, the police arrested a 27-year-old man from Kerala for allegedly smoking a cigarette inside the lavatory of an Indigo flight from Abu Dhabi to Mumbai after takeoff.

Sarath Purakka, a resident of Malappuram in Kerala, boarded the Mumbai-bound flight on Monday. As soon as the flight departed at around 6.55 am, the man went to the lavatory and lit a cigarette which ticked off the smoke alarm.

Seeing this, the cabinet crew rushed to the lavatory and knocked several times but Purakka took at least 10 minutes to come out. The crew members found a packet of cigarettes and a lighter from him and also a stubbed butt from the washroom.

Police were informed upon the flight’s landing at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International and the man was handed over to them. Cops have seized the cigarettes found from the man as evidence and placed him under arrest.

Further investigation in this connection is underway.

Flight makes emergency landing over lice in woman’s hair

An American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to New York was forced to make an emergency landing in Phoenix after a passenger reportedly spotted bugs in another traveller’s hair.

What began as a routine flight took an unexpected turn when the discovery led to a sudden diversion. Passengers were left puzzled, and social media quickly buzzed with the unusual incident.

TikTok creator Ethan Judelson, who was on the flight, captured the bizarre situation in a viral video, documenting the confusion as passengers were given minimal information about the emergency landing.

Judelson, initially unclear about the reason for the diversion, observed the woman who was the focus of the incident rushing to the front of the plane immediately after landing, appearing unconcerned about the urgency of the evacuation.
