Japan Airlines increases flight services on Tokyo-Bengaluru route amid rising demand – Details inside – Airlines/Aviation News

In an effort to boost connectivity between Tokyo and Bengaluru, Japan Airlines has announced five flights per week from late October. The announcement comes amid rising demand, according to Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL). 

Currently, the far-east airline operates three flights per week on this route, linking Tokyo with the Silicon Valley of India. BLR Airport is the sole airport in Southern India offering direct flights to Japan, with Japan Airlines (JAL) being the only carrier serving this route from Bangalore.

Rising demand and passenger convenience

JAL uses its Boeing B787-8 aircraft, which accommodates 186 passengers in a two-class configuration on this route. The airline’s decision to expand its operations comes in response to growing demand, aiming to enhance passenger convenience and support regional economic growth.

“JAL Group has chosen to expand its operations at Bangalore Airport. This strategic decision not only enhances passenger convenience and boosts regional economic growth but also strengthens our commitment to connecting Bengaluru to major global centres of commerce and tourism,” said Satyaki Raghunath, Chief Operating Officer at BIAL.

167.55% rise in passenger numbers

Since launching services to Bengaluru in April 2020, JAL has seen a significant increase in passenger numbers, with 62,959 passengers last year—a 167.55% rise from 2022’s 23,532 passengers—demonstrating strong travel demand between South India and Japan, BIAL noted.
