Jammu and Kashmir: Srinagar Records 31.7°C, More Rain Forecasted

SRINAGAR: Following a brief respite brought by thundershowers and heavy rains, weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir have once again recorded an upward trend in temperature, with most places across the region experiencing above-normal temperatures on Tuesday.

Eight out of 11 stations recorded temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius today, with Srinagar, recording a maximum temperature of 31.7 degrees Celsius.

Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir, recorded a maximum temperature of 31.9 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam, a famous tourist destination, recorded 29.6 degrees Celsius.

The mercury settled at 28.7 degrees Celsius in Kupwara, while in Kokernag and Gulmarg, a famous ski resort, it settled at 31.9 degrees Celsius and 21.0 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The rise in maximum temperatures was recorded amidst the forecast of intermittent rains and thundershowers in Jammu and Kashmir for the next few days.

In Jammu, the mercury settled at 36.4 degrees Celsius, while in Banihal it settled at 33.6 degrees Celsius. It settled at 31.4 degrees Celsius in Batote, and at 33.3 degrees Celsius and 33.0 degrees Celsius in Katra and Bhaderwah stations, respectively.

For the next 24 hours, the weatherman has predicted generally cloudy weather with intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places in the Kashmir division and widespread places in the Jammu division.

From August 01 to August 07, Director Meteorological Department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said that generally cloudy weather with spells of intermittent light to moderate rain and thundershowers is expected at many places in the Kashmir division and most places in the Jammu division.

However, the MeT has issued an advisory, warning of intense showers for brief periods with the possibility of flash floods, cloud bursts, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas of J&K, with the possibility of heavy rainfall at a few places in the Jammu division.

Notably, most parts of Jammu & Kashmir experienced thundershowers, and some areas received heavy rainfall yesterday, leading to a dip in mercury and simultaneously ending the prolonged heatwave in the Union Territory—(KNO)
