Srinagar: A massive landslide was reported on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway on Thursday. The landslide occurred in the Ratanbas area of Ramban district’s Banihaal town. According to reports, several vehicles are feared to be trapped under debris.Jammu and Kashmir traffic police have reached the spot and started a rescue operation. The highway is currently closed for traffic movement A video of the landslide also surfaced online. In the video, a huge traffic jam could be seen on the highway.

“The Jammu-Srinagar national highway is closed for traffic at Shalgadi, near Banihal due to fresh landslides and shooting stones in the area. Road clearance is underway,” said the Deputy Commissioner of Ramban as quoted by news agency ANI. According two reports two people were injured as a truck came under the landslide.
Jammu-Srinagar Highway is the lifeline of Srinagar as it connects the valley with the rest of the country. The highway connecting Srinagar and Jammu passes through Pulwama, Anantnag, Kulgam, Ramban, and Udhampur districts. It starts at Lal Chowk in Srinagar.
