Jammu and Kashmir Elections: Rahul Gandhi to kickstart Congress campaign at Ramban, Anantnag
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be on a one-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. He is scheduled to address 2 rallies in the Union Territory before voting commences on September 18. The rallies are scheduled to be held in Ramban and Anantnag. While Vikar Rasool Wani, is the candidate from Banihal in Ramban, Ghulam Ahmed Mir is the party’s candidate from Anantnag’s Dooru.

Srinagar: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will start to campaign for the Jammu and Kashmir Elections on September 4. He is scheduled to address 2 rallies in the Union Territory on the day. The rallies come just before the first phase of Assembly Elections, scheduled for September 18.
All political parties have started preparations for the Assembly Elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which are being held after almost a decade. The elections in the Union Territory which saw the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019 are scheduled between September 18 to October 1.
Ramban and Anantnag rallies of Rahul Gandhi
The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi will be addressing rallies in Ramban and Anantnag on Wednesday. These rallies are to help Congress candidates contesting in the first phase of elections, garner maximum possible votes.
Gandhi’s first rally will be for Congress candidate Vikar Rasool Wani, who is contesting from the Banihal assembly constituency, reported PTI. Wani is the former Jammu and Kashmir unit party chief, said Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee chief, Tariq Hamid Karra. Talking about Gandhi’s schedule, he said that the Congress scion is expected to reach Srinagar from Delhi on Wednesday itself.
Gandhi’s next political rally is scheduled to take place in Dooru area of Anantnag district. This rally will be for party candidate Ghulam Ahmed Mir. He is a general secretary of the party and also a former minister. Gandhi will be back in Delhi by evening, said Karra.
Gandhi’s presence will boost party campaign in Jammu and Kashmir: Congress
Talking about the 2 rallies that Gandhi is scheduled to address on Wednesday, party leaders said that it will definitely boost the campaign. Hindustan Times in a report quoted the JKPCC chief as saying that Gandhi’s campaign would give a “new impetus” to the party’s outreach during the elections and improve its poll prospects.
The party hopes to regain its hold over Jammu and feels that Gandhi’s political rallies will surely help them achieve this. The region has gradually become a BJP dominated region. In the Lok Sabha Elections, the BJP won both the seats from here.
Party leader Priyanka Gandhi is also expected to join the campaign in Jammu and Kashmir. Voting for the 90-member Assembly is being held in 3 phases. Results will be declared on October 4.
