Is August 15 a bank holiday or not in India?
In August 2024, banks will be closed for 13 days across various states, including Sundays, second and fourth Saturdays. Three days are recognised as “national holidays” in India, and all businesses must give their employees a day off on these occasions: January 26 is Republic Day; August 15 is Independence Day; and October 2 is Gandhi Jayanti.
Banks will be closed across the country on August 15 in commemoration of the 78th Independence Day. This year, August 15 falls on a Thursday, so there won’t be a long weekend that week.
