The body of a woman doctor was found under mysterious circumstances on the fourth floor of the emergency building of RG Kar Medical College in West Bengal’s Kolkata on Friday morning. The victim, a second-year postgraduate student of RG Kar Medical College, was found dead inside the Seminar Hall on the 3rd floor of the campus.

Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and a forensic team have reached the spot for investigation. The body has been taken for post-mortem.

According to police sources, she had gone to the seminar hall after dinner on Thursday night.

The hospital has formed a 11 member enquiry committee for this incident On the other hand, a section of junior doctors has declared that they will not work because of the prevalent lack of security in the hospital. The protesting doctors also claimed that only the emergency ward of the hospital will be open.

The State Women’s Commission has reached the hospital to take note of the incident.

BJP leader Amit Malviya accused the Mamata Banerjee government in the state of “hiding the crime”. He also claimed that Kolkata Police was instructed to “cover-up” the alleged murder of the woman doctor and “show it as suicide”.

“A woman doctor, in a leading Govt hospital in Kolkata, raped and murdered. Her naked body found from the duty room. Mamata Banerjee Govt is trying to hide the crime. Kolkata Police has been asked to cover up, show it as suicide. Media is not being allowed in. Repeat: no woman, from Sandeshkhali to Chopra, is safe in West Bengal,” Malviya wrote in an X post.

Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee spoke to the parents of victim on Friday. The victim’s mother said that yesterday night she called them and said that she was ok. The mother also said that she feels this is a case of murder.

“She was semi nude and had injury marks her spectacle is broken, my daughter is good. She has been murdered,” the victim’s mother said.
