Indiscriminate firing, bomb attacks too; Violence again in Manipur, woman killed, four injured – hindustannewshub.com
A woman was killed and four others injured in an attack by suspected militants in Manipur’s Imphal West district on Sunday, police said. According to police, the militants carried out bomb attacks and opened indiscriminate firing from the hill top towards the valley bottom areas of Kotruk and neighbouring Kadangband. Police said a woman was killed in the attack while four others, including her eight-year-old daughter and a police officer, were injured.
The sudden attack on the village caused panic among the people, forcing many people, including women, children and the elderly, to flee to safer places, police said. The deceased woman was identified as Ngangbam Surabala Devi (31) and her body was taken to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for post-mortem. Surabala’s daughter and police officer N. Robert (30) has been admitted to RIMS while two others are undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity. The victims were at their homes when the firing and bomb blast took place. Security forces, including state and central units, have been deployed in the area to stabilise the situation, police said.
At the same time, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has taken a tough stand against pro-Meitei militant groups including Arambai Tenggol and has vowed that he will not let these groups become radical and anti-national. Arambai Tenggol is accused of inciting violence against the Kuki community. Singh said in a recent interview with ‘PTI Video’, “I told her (Arambai Tenggol) that you will not do any anti-national or communal work. You have to help the government.” He said, “No communal words should come out of your mouth. I had clearly warned that you will not say anything.” Singh said that not a single word came out of her (Arambai Tenggol) mouth in five months. He said, “I will not let them become radical, anti-national.” Arambai Tenggol has been the center of controversy. Kuki representatives have blamed this organization for increasing violence.
