An IndiGo passenger has slammed the airline for being offered paltry compensation after it lost a bag with goods worth Rs 45,000.

The issue came to light after a friend of the passenger shared the incident on social media network X (formerly Twitter).

According to the tweet, the passenger boarded a Kolkata-Guwahati flight. The bag was checked in at Kolkata Airport but allegedly never arrived at Guwahati Airport.

The bag was said to contain items worth ₹45,000, along with important documents like a driving license, PAN card, Aadhar card, etc.

The incident occurred in July this year, as indicated by the date on the alleged boarding pass.

A month later, IndiGo offered the passenger a mere ₹2,450 in compensation.“It is ridiculous. Just the bag would cost more than that. Apparently, there is a rule that the airline is liable for a maximum of ₹350 per kg if they lose the bag. That is just adding insult to injury. If someone from the IndiGo social media team is reading this, please help him out. ₹2,450 isn’t going to fix it,” the tweet added.IndiGo has a Baggage Delayed and Lost Protection service under which it offers ₹19,000 per bag for domestic travel and ₹66,000 for international travel, regardless of the contents or receipts. However, there is a fee of ₹95 for domestic and ₹330 for international travel.

Last month, a survey revealed that Air India had the highest rate of lost passenger luggage among global airlines.
