New Delhi: The country has been eagerly waiting for the ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR) bullet train that will connect Mumbai in Maharashtra to Ahmedabad in Gujarat.

The Ministry of Railways on Wednesday, August 7, shared the updates about the project. It said that significant advancements have been made in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project and key construction phases are making substantial progress and bringing the project closer to completion.

The Ministry of Railways shared a post on X: “Substantial strides towards accomplishing the Nation’s first #BulletTrain project, with key construction phases underway.”

The ministry shared a comprehensive progress report highlighting several critical milestones achieved as of July 31, 2024.

Bullet Train Progress Report

Land Acquisition Status: 100% acquired. 1,390-hectare land.

Pier Foundation: 341 kilometers

Pier Construction: 324 kilometers

Girder Casting: 231 kilometers

Girder Launching: 200 kilometers

With the project proceeding smoothly, the laying of the rail tracks is underway with ongoing efforts to ensure timely completion.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-speed Rail Corridor

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-speed Rail Corridor is being developed with an investment of Rs 1.08 lakh crore. MAHSR will be India’s first bullet train that will navigate through Gujarat, Maharashtra, and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

It will cover a distance of 508 km at a high speed reaching up to 320 km/h.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on March 19 this year that India’s first bullet train will be launched by 2026 on Mumbai-Ahmedabad Route.

“India’s first bullet train will be ready in 2026, and will run in one section from Surat,” Ashwini Vaishnaw said during an event adding that the Central government is working on the 508-km-long Mumbai-Ahmedabad HSR (highspeed rail) project and it will cover Surat-Bilimora in Gujarat, and the full stretch is expected to be completed in 2028.
