India Weather today: Heavy rains predicted in north India, more showers in Delhi | Check forecast

Weather in India: The northwestern, central, and eastern parts of the country are on high alert, preparing for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, potentially causing widespread disruption in the normal routine of the people.

New Delhi: As the monsoon season peaks, several states are bracing for a deluge of rain across several regions, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing severe weather warnings for the coming days. The northwestern, central, and eastern parts of the country are on high alert, preparing for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, potentially causing widespread disruption in the normal routine of the people. The weather has predicted more rainfall in the national capital.

CHECK RAINFALL FORECAST

The IMD issued an extremely heavy rainfall warning for East Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, West Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat Region, and Konkan & Goa on August 4. The landslide-hit Wayanad region in Kerala is also predicted to receive a fresh spell of rainfall warning on August 4.

The south is expected to bear the brunt of the downpour, with very heavy rainfall predicted over coastal Karnataka from August 2-4. Kerala and Mahe are also expected to witness heavy rains during the same period, extending to coastal Karnataka from August 5-7.

Northwest India is also under a heavy rainfall alert. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is predicted over East Rajasthan on August 4, with very heavy rainfall expected over East Rajasthan from August 2-3. Uttarakhand is expected to experience heavy rainfall on August 3-8, while East Uttar Pradesh is forecast to receive very heavy rainfall on August 2.

The sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Bihar are bracing for heavy to very heavy rains from August 4-6, with Gangetic West Bengal experiencing heavy rain on August 4. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura are also under a heavy rainfall alert from August 4-6.

The IMD has predicted above-normal rainfall in August and September, the crucial period for irrigation of standing crops. The monsoon season, which contributes 75% of India’s annual rainfall, is vital for agriculture, which accounts for 15% of India’s GDP and provides employment for a large segment of the population.
