Weather in India Today: The IMD has predicted, a wet weather for northeastern parts of the country as well as some southern states. Parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura and Mizoram will see almost 12 cm of rain. The weather department also said that northern statres of UP, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh will witness heavy rains on Thursday.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that heavy to very heavy rains will occur in parts of Assam and Meghalaya. Nagalnd, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will also witness heavy rainfall on Thursday. The rainfall in these places is expected to be anything equal to or less than 12 cm, said the weather department. In fact the IMD had earlier issued a red warning for Tripura, on Wednesday.

Heavy rains, thunderstorms over north and south India: IMD

Not only will the northeastern part of India be wet, similar conditions will prevail over north India and also states on the western coast. Uttarakahnd, East Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Konkan coast, Goa and Gujarat will all see heavy rains. The IMD says that these states are likely to receive 7 cm of rain.

In South India, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanama and coastal Karnataka, will also receive heavy rains, say predictions. In northern India, thunderstorms accompanied by lighting are likely to occur over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Wind speeds to reach 55 kmph in western India

Squally weather is predicted for western India on Thursday. Wind speeds are likely to reach 35 to 45 kmph and go up to 55 kmph over many parts of west central Arabian Sea and south west Arabian Sea. Many parts of east central and south east Arabian Sea, along and off the Konkan and Goa coast, Karnataka, Kerala coast and Lakshadweep are likely to witness this phenomenon of windy weather.

South East Bay of Bengal, most parts of west central Bay of Bengal and few parts of north west Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coast are also likely to see high wind speeds during the day, said the IMD. Squally weather with wind speeds reaching 45 to 55 kmph, going up to 65 kmph is likely to prevail over southern parts of east central and adjoining south east Arabian Sea, along and off the coast of Goa and Karnataka coast. Similar conditions will be witnessed in western parts of west central Arabian Sea and south west Arabian Sea.
