Weather in India Today: The IMD said that Gujarat will witness heavy to very heavy rains on Wednesday. Similar will be the conditions in Saurashtra and Kutch region. Northern states of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal will also see heavy rains and lightining and thunderstorms are possible in Rajasthan.

New Delhi: Monsoon rains continue to wreak havoc in western India, with Gujarat being the worst hit state by the deluge. On Wednesday the weather department predicted that heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places over Gujarat region. The rainfall can be equal to or less than 12 cm. Similar conditions will be witnessed in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Coastal and south interior Karnataka.

Extremely heavy rainfall in Kutch, thunderstorms in Rajasthan

If Gujarat will receive heavy to very heavy rains, the Saurashtra and Kutch region will see even worse. The IMD said that extremely heavy rainfall, somewhere around 20 cm or less, is possible in this region.

Northern and eastern India will also see heavy rains. The places where rainfall is possible on Wednesday are Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha. The northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will also witness heavy rais, either equal to or less than 7 cm, according to predictions by the weather department.

Konkan coast, Goa and Maharashtra in the west and Kerala and Karnataka in the south will also witness heavy rains, said the weather department.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, with a speed of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour are possible at isolated places of West Rajasthan. Lighting might also be witnessed in some places in East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

Squally weather, with a wind speed of 35 to 45 kmph, which can reach 55 kmph is likely to prevail over northeast Arabian Sea, most parts of northwest Arabian Sea and most parts of central Arabian Sea. The Arabian Sea along and off the coast of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Konkan, Goa and Karnataka coast will also witness similar weather conditions.

The north Maharashtra coast, the South Gujarat region, Saurashtra and Kutch will also witness squally and windy weather on Wednesday. The wind speed here will be higher, anything from 40 to 50 kmph, going up to 65 kmph.

Morning showers in Delhi

Meanwhile Delhi-NCR witnessed light showers on Wednesday morning. The IMD had already predicted light showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lighting for New Delhi, South-West Delhi, South Delhi, South-East Delhi, and East Delhi. Moderate rains were predicted for Central Delhi.

Light to moderate rainfall was also predicted for Dilshad Garden, Seemapuri, Vivek Vihar, Jafarpur, Nazafgarh, Dwarka, Delhi Cantt, Palam, Safdarjung, Lodi Road, IGI Airport, Vasant Vihar, R K Puram and Defence Colony. Lajpat Nagar, Vasant Kunj, Hauz Khas, Malviyanagar, Kalkaji, Mahrauli, Tughlakabad), NCR ( Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Gurugram), received overnight rains, as predicted by the weather department.
