India weather: IMD issues ‘extremely heavy’ rain warning for Gujarat, yellow alert for Delhi

India weather forecast and warning by IMD: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for heavy rainfall across various regions. Central and Northeast India will experience thunderstorms and lightning. Mumbai and parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka are expected to face very heavy rain.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alert forecasting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across various regions of India for the next five days. 

A yellow alert has been issued for Punjab, Haryana and Delhi for heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places. According to IMD, Mumbai will see moderate rain across the city and suburbs, with a possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places. Gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are anticipated on July 28. 

Central and Northeast India

Central and Northeast India are likely to experience thunderstorms and lightning at isolated locations over the next five days. Moderate rainfall is predicted, with heavy downpours likely in certain areas. 

West and Central India

In West and Central India, regions like Gujarat, West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh will experience widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms. Extremely heavy rainfall predicted for Gujarat on July 28. West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are likely to face very heavy rainfall on July 27. East Madhya Pradesh will see heavy rain on July 27 and 31.

Northwest India

The northwest regions, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and East Rajasthan, are forecasted to receive widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. Uttarakhand is at risk of very heavy rainfall on July 27, 30, and 31. Scattered to widespread rain is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. East Rajasthan may experience isolated heavy rain from July 28 to 31.

South India

Southern India will also witness significant weather activity. Kerala and Coastal Karnataka are set to experience widespread rainfall, with very heavy rain predicted for July 28. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Interior Karnataka will also see heavy rain on July 27 and 28. 

East and Northeast India

In East and Northeast India, consistent rainfall is expected over the next five days. Nagaland and Manipur are likely to experience very heavy rain on July 29 and 30. Other regions, such as Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, and Odisha, will also see heavy rain during this period. Arunachal Pradesh and Jharkhand are expected to receive rainfall over the next three days. 

Coastal and sea areas

Squally weather with wind speeds reaching up to 55 kmph is forecasted along the coasts of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Kerala. This includes regions of the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Fishermen are strongly advised not to venture into these areas due to hazardous sea conditions.
