India is gearing up to celebrate 78th Independence Day on August 15, 2024. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation for the 11th consecutive time from the ramparts of the iconic Red Fort and will be the first PM after Pandit Nehru to achieve the feat.

Independence Day 2024 celebrations in the national capital, New Delhi will see around 4,000 special guests.  

A report by The Indian Express quoted sources as saying that farmers, youth, women and the poor, who were described by PM Modi as the “four pillars of a developed India” during his first visit to Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi after being reelected for the third consecutive term in June, will be among the special guests who have been invited by the Centre for the 2024 Independence Day celebrations.

These guests have been divided into 11 categories, with 1,000 of them from the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare category.  

From the youth affairs category 600 have been invited, while 300 have been invited from the Women and Child Development category.

There will be 300 guests each from Panchayati Raj and Rural Development, 350 from Tribal Affairs. From School Education and Literacy and Border Roads Organisation/ Ministry of Defence there will be 200 guests each).

From Health and Family Welfare and Sports there will be 150 each. There will also be 1,200 special guests from Niti Aayog category.

The invitation to the special guests have been sent by the departments concerned via the Ministry of Defence.  

About 150 students of Eklavya Model Residential Schools, 100 tribal artisans and Van Dhan Vikas Yojana members, and 50 tribal entrepreneurs have also been invited.  

A report by India Today quoted sources as saying that the Indian contingent of the 2024 Paris Olympics is also expected to be invited to the 2024 Independence Day celebrations.

However, the overall guest list is much higher, with at least 18,000 e-invitation sent for the 78th Independence Day celebrations.

“All the special guests will arrive in Delhi on August 14 and some of them are scheduled to visit the National War Memorial. They would call on some senior ministers during their stay in Delhi,” the Indian Express quoted source as saying.
