Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has announced a minimum monthly pension of Rs 50,000 for former MLAs. Tamang made this announcement on the 22nd Foundation Day of the Former Legislators Association of Sikkim (FLFS) on Saturday.

He said that former MLAs who have served one term as MLAs will now get a monthly pension of Rs 50,000. Currently, they are getting a monthly pension of Rs 22,000. Tamang said that former MLAs who have served two terms or more as MLAs will now get a monthly pension of Rs 55,000 instead of Rs 25,000.

The Chief Minister also announced that the Sikkim government will provide an annual grant-in-aid of Rs 20 lakh to the Former MLAs Association of Sikkim. He said that this fund is to meet the emergency and medical needs of the former MLAs and to assist them.

Regarding the pension of MLAs, the system is different in different states. In Uttar Pradesh, former MLAs are given a pension of Rs 25,000 and after completing a tenure of five years, the pension increases by Rs 2,000 every year. There is a provision to give a pension of Rs 10,000 to the wife after the death of a former MLA.
