New Delhi: The spell of heavy rainfall is predicted to continue in parts of Gujarat as the state continues to bear the brunt of heavy downpours over the past few days causing waterlogging and flooding in many areas, whereas Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are predicted to get relief from torrential rains as the governments undertake relief following the receding of flood waters, the IMD weather forecast has stated.
In its latest all India weather bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a light bout of rains with generally cloudy skies over parts of north India including Delhi-NCR but warned that extremely rainfall will continue in Gujarat today.
In its weather observations, the IMD said a low-pressure area is currently situated over southwest Madhya Pradesh and its surrounding regions. The western end of the monsoon trough at mean sea level is near its normal position, while the eastern end is south of its normal position, a pattern expected to persist for the next 2-3 days.
Additionally, a cyclonic circulation is present over Saurashtra and its neighbouring areas in the middle tropospheric levels. A shear zone extends roughly along 20°N over northern Peninsular India in the lower tropospheric levels. Moreover, a fresh low-pressure area is anticipated to develop over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal around September 5th, 2024.

West and Central India
Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected across West and Central India throughout the week. Isolated incidents of extremely heavy rainfall are anticipated in Gujarat on September 3, with very heavy rainfall likely over Saurashtra and Kutch regions as well as west Madhya Pradesh on the same day, and in the Gujarat region on September 4.
Isolated heavy rainfall is predicted over Konkan and Goa, and the Gujarat region over the next seven days. West Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra, and Kutch can expect heavy rain from September 3rd to 7th, while East Madhya Pradesh is likely to experience it on September 4 and 5.
The Vidarbha region is forecasted to have heavy rainfall on September 3 and 4, Chhattisgarh from September 4 to 9th, and the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra on September 3 and between September 6 and 9.
North India
Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is very likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan throughout the week.
Isolated to scattered rainfall is expected over Punjab and Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi during the same period. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over East Rajasthan over the next 7 days.
Uttarakhand is expected to receive heavy rainfall from September 3 to 6. Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana are likely to experience it on September 3. West Uttar Pradesh is expected to have heavy rainfall on September 5, while East Uttar Pradesh may see it on September 5 and 6. West Rajasthan is likely to receive heavy rainfall from September 3 to 7.
South India
Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over Coastal Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe, and Lakshadweep throughout the week. Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, and Telangana, with isolated to scattered rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, North Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and Interior Karnataka during the same period.
Additionally, isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Kerala & Mahe, and Interior Karnataka on September 3; Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, and Coastal Karnataka from September 3 to 7, and Telangana on September 3 and 4.
East, Northeast India
Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is very likely over Northeast India, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim throughout the week.
Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is also expected over Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha during this period. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura over the next 7 days; Arunachal Pradesh from September 3 to 6; the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on September 3 and 4; Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on September 3, 4, and 5 and in Bihar on September 3 and 4, in Odisha from September 5 to 7.
