IMD warns of ‘extremely heavy’ rainfall in Rajasthan, Himachal and Assam; check detailed forecast

India will see widespread rainfall this week, with heavy to extremely heavy rain expected in Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Assam. Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi could also be affected by heavy rainfall on August 27 and 28.

New Delhi: Several parts of India are set to experience widespread rainfall this week, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). While parts of the country will see moderate showers, certain areas are likely to be hit by extremely heavy rainfall.

In Northwest India, regions including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and East Rajasthan are expected to witness fairly widespread light to moderate rain. Himachal Pradesh could witness heavy downpours on August 25, while Uttarakhand may experience the same on August 25 and 28. 

Forecast for North India

Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi could witness heavy rainfall on August 27 and 28, with Uttar Pradesh likely to face similar conditions on August 25.

In East and West Rajasthan, extremely heavy rainfall is expected on August 25 and isolated heavy rainfall is likely over several days. West Rajasthan will likely receive very heavy rain on August 25, posing a risk of severe waterlogging. 

Forecast for West and Central India

Fairly widespread moderate showers are predicted over West and Central India. Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Maharashtra are expected to see heavy rain, with isolated extremely heavy rain in West Madhya Pradesh on August 25. 

Konkan region, Goa and parts of Maharashtra, particularly Madhya Maharashtra, could be affected by very heavy rainfall between August 25 and 26. Saurashtra and Kutch are also forecasted to receive intense rainfall until August 27.

Forecast for East and Northeast India

Rainfall activity will also pick up in East and Northeast India. Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha and Assam are likely to face heavy to very heavy rainfall on specific days, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Mizoram and Tripura on August 26.
