IMD predicts widespread rainfall across India, heavy downpours expected in several regions

A low-pressure system is expected to develop over Jharkhand and the neighboring regions of north Odisha and Chhattisgarh within the next 24 hours, bringing widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across India. New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall northwest India, including Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan. Isolated very heavy rainfall is predicted over Himachal Pradesh on August and 10.

Meanwhile, a low-pressure area to form over Jharkhand and the adjoining north Odisha and Chhattisgarh in the next 24 hours, which will lead to widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across India. The monsoon trough is active and remains close to its normal position at mean sea level. The system is expected to tilt southwestwards with height and potentially leading to the formation of a low-pressure area within the next 24 hours

A feeble offshore trough is also present along the South Gujarat to North Karnataka coast and will influence the weather patterns in these regions. Apart from that, a north-south trough extends from Rayalaseema to the Comorin area in lower tropospheric levels, contributing to the overall moisture availability and rain activity.

West & Central India

The region will witness fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall, particularly over Konkan & Goa and Gujarat. Extremely heavy rainfall is anticipated in isolated areas of Chhattisgarh, with very heavy rainfall expected over East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha. Other areas, including Saurashtra, Kutch, and Madhya Maharashtra, are also likely to experience heavy downpours during the week.

East & Northeast India

East and Northeast India will receive fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall, with very heavy rainfall predicted over Odisha, Nagaland, Assam, and Meghalaya. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will also experience heavy rainfall.

South Peninsular India

Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is expected over Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep, with isolated heavy rainfall in Coastal Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh on August today.
