IMD Predicts Widespread Rain Across Northeast – Eastern Mirror
DIMAPUR — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast moderate rain across most of the Northeast region for the next few days.
On August 2, rain is expected in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, with showers also likely in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. This pattern will persist from August 3 to the 5th across the entire region, it said.
In addition to moderate rain, isolated thunderstorms and lightning are expected on August 2 across all seven states. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Assam and Meghalaya, while heavy rain is possible in isolated areas of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, it said.
Attributing these conditions to an active monsoon trough in its usual position, and an off-shore trough along the South Gujarat to Kerala coast, the IMD said a cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and a trough extending towards northeast Bihar are also influencing the weather.
