IMD predicts heavy rains in Nilgiris & Coimbatore, showers with thunderstorms expected in Chennai

Leeward areas in Tamil Nadu may see less thunderstorms today and tomorrow, while Chennai may see isolated evening showers.Meanwhile, widespread heavy rains are likely to continue over the Ghats of Karnataka with few places seeing very heavy rains as monsoon 2024 remains vigorous.

IMD predicts heavy rains in Nilgiris & Coimbatore, showers with thunderstorms expected in Chennai

Several parts of Tamil Nadu are likely to get light to moderate rains in the next 24 hours.

Chennai: The Chennai Regional Metrological Centre predicted heavy rains for the Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts, while moderate rains with thunderstorms are likely in parts of  Chennai in the next 24 hours.

Heavy rain warning

“Due to the change in the speed of the westerly wind, today, July 26, and tomorrow, Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning may occur in a couple of places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Also, strong surface winds may gust at 30 – 40 kmph, Chennai Regional Metrological Centre said. Besides, Heavy rain warnings have been issued at a couple of places in hilly areas of the Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts.

Chances of moderate rain until 31st July

Similarly, the weather agency forecasted moderate rains likely in parts of Tamil Nadu from July 27 to July 31 and there may be light to moderate rain in a few places, Puducherry and Karaikal region.

The sky will remain partly cloudy for the next 24 hours. Light to moderate rain with thundershower is likely in a few parts of the city. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 35-36° Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to be around 27-28* Celsius.

Private weather blogger Pradeep Jhon predicted that “South Chennai areas such as Shollinganallur, Padur, Navalur suburbs such as Siruseri, Kelambakkam, Mambakkam, Maraimalai Nagar, Singaperumal Kovil, Potheri, Mahindra City, Chengalpet, Guduvanchery, Kovalam, Mamallapuram, Urapakkam all in path of rains.

Meanwhile, parts of central Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas around north Tamil Nadu witnessed moderate thunderstorms in the last 24 hours, while places in Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, and Ariyalur districts received rains in many places.
