IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall Alert for Odisha till Aug 30 | Pragativadi | Odisha News, Breaking News Odisha, Latest Odisha News
Bhubaneswar: Most of the places in Odisha are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall over the coming week due to a well-defined low-pressure system over the Gangetic West Bengal region.
The low-pressure area is likely to move west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and adjoining north Odisha during the next two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its mid-day bulletin on Monday.
Heavy rainfall is expected across various locations in Odisha until the 30th, with North Odisha set to experience a greater impact. An orange alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall in districts such as Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jharsuguda on Monday and Tuesday.
Due to a low-pressure system, very heavy rainfall is predicted in parts of the state over the next 24 hours, with heavy rainfall in certain areas. Consequently, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Department has issued an orange warning for four districts and a yellow warning for fourteen districts.
With the forecast of very heavy rainfall, there is a risk of water accumulation in low-lying areas and reduced visibility. Urban regions might face challenges with water drainage. The Meteorological Department recommends taking necessary precautions.
The Special Relief Commissioner has instructed district authorities to remain vigilant. There is a likelihood of a cyclonic storm forming at sea on the 28th and 29th, which is expected to evolve into a low-pressure area over the west-central Bay of Bengal by the 30th or 31st.
