IMD issues heavy rain alert for Uttarakhand, Himachal; check weather forecast of your state

India weather forecast and warning by IMD: The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in regions like Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The rains are expected to be fairly widespread in the northwest, central and southern parts of India, while the eastern and northeastern regions will also see significant precipitation.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in several regions.

New Delhi: India is likely to experience widespread rainfall over the next six days. The northern, central, eastern and southern parts of the country will see a mix of light, moderate and heavy rainfall, bringing relief to some areas while raising concerns about potential flooding in others.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in several regions. The rains are expected to be fairly widespread in the northwest, central and southern parts of India, while the eastern and northeastern regions will also see significant precipitation.

Forecast for Northwest India

In Northwest India, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will experience fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall over the next three to four days. 

Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and West Rajasthan on August 16 and 17, while Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh will continue to receive heavy rainfall till August 21. Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi are also likely to see heavy rain on August 16.

Forecast for West and Central India

West and Central India will also witness significant rainfall over the next few days. Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are likely to experience fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rain. Konkan and Goa, as well as the Gujarat region, will see scattered to fairly widespread rainfall. 

Isolated heavy rainfall is expected over West Madhya Pradesh on August 16 and from August 19 to 21, while East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha will witness heavy downpours from August 18 to 21. Chhattisgarh is likely to experience isolated very heavy rainfall on August 16.

Forecast for East and Northeast India

In East and Northeast India, the rainfall pattern will be fairly widespread to widespread in East India and scattered to fairly widespread in the Northeast. 

Isolated heavy rains are predicted for Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on August 16, while Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand will receive heavy rainfall from August 16 to 21. 

The northeastern states of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are also expected to see heavy rain during this period, with very heavy rainfall likely over Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand on August 16 and 17.

Forecast for South Peninsular India

In South Peninsular India, the states of Kerala, Mahe and Karnataka will experience fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall throughout the week. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, along with Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Telangana, will see scattered to fairly widespread rainfall. 

Heavy rainfall is anticipated over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from August 16 to 19 and in Kerala and Mahe on August 19. The IMD has also warned of isolated very heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Rayalaseema and South Interior Karnataka on August 16 and 17.
