IISc retains best university for 9th year in NIRF ranking

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is ranked as the top engineering college in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 for the sixth year in a row. The Ministry of Education said on Monday that the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, has maintained its position as the top university for the ninth consecutive year.

IIT Bombay came in third and IISc Bengaluru in second place in the overall category. IIT Delhi, which finished third the previous year, is now in fourth place.

Eight of the top 10 universities are IITs, while the list also includes Jawaharlal Nehru University and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), both in New Delhi, the New Indian Express reported.

IIT Madras is the top engineering college; IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay are still in second and third place, respectively. The only non-IIT school in the top ten is the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Tiruchirapalli.

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad continues to hold the top position in management education, with IIM Bangalore and IIM Kozhikode following. The top 10 management colleges also include two IITs- Delhi and Bombay.

The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Hyderabad, has fallen to second place in the field of pharmacy, whereas Jamia Hamdard has risen to the top from second place the previous year. Third place is still held by BITS Pilani.

Miranda House has dropped to second place in the college rankings, with Delhi University’s Hindu College rising to the top. Third place goes to St. Stephen’s College.

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in Bengaluru continues to be the best legal school in the country. National Law University (NLU) in Delhi and NALSAR University of Law in Hyderabad are the next two best law schools.

IIT Roorkee is ranked top in architecture and planning, followed by IIT Kharagpur and NIT Calicut in second and third place.

In the medical field AIIMS, New Delhi, continues to be at the top, with PGIMER, Chandigarh, and Christian Medical College, Vellore following closely after.

In terms of dental schools, the top two spots are still held by Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences in Chennai and Manipal College of Dental Sciences. Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences in New Delhi is ranked third.

IISc Bengaluru is regarded as the top research school, followed by IIT Madras and IIT Delhi in second and third place, respectively.

Anna University in Chennai leads the recently established category for state public universities, followed by Jadavpur University in Kolkata and Savitribai Phule Pune University.
