Two individuals were killed and 20 others injured after almost 18 coaches of a train slated for Mumbai derailed in Jharkhand this morning. However, according to Local 18 Bengal, a couple from West Bengal named Shyamaprasad Halder and Anjana Halder, were narrowly saved in this accident. The couple shared how they luckily escaped the train derailment. Shyamaprasad recalled that at 03:30 AM, the train cabin was tilted with a sudden jolt and loud noise.

According to him, when he and his wife were in the B-2 room, a total of 18 rooms at the rear end of the train derailed. He said that another railway line is being constructed next to that line near Chakradharpur. He added that there is a deep ditch below that line. Shyamaprasad said that if the train had come into contact with that line, the number of casualties would have increased.

Shyamaprasad said that the Mumbai Express was passing through the left lane and there was a freight car (a railway wagon for carrying freight) in the right lane. The luggage area was filled with plastic which came into contact in front of the Mumbai Express engine. As per Shyamaprasad, due to this, the driver probably applied brakes without seeing anything. He said that the injured were taken to the local hospital, and the rest of the passengers were taken to Chakradharpur by train.

Shyamaprasad said that their (his and his wife)’s families were worried after listening to the news of the train accident. According to his grandfather Ramprasad Halder, his brother had called him and informed him about the train derailment. Shyamaprasad recalls that his wife Anjana was scared and crying. According to him, commuting by train has become scary due to the consecutive rail accidents. Their house is located on the ground floor of Khamargachhi in Balagarh, Hooghly. Anjana Halder is currently employed in the Chandannagar Police Commissionerate.
